About Us

Initiated in 2011, The Coastal Resiliency Coalition (CRC) was established to address the pressing need for resilience along Alabama's coast. Initially formed in response to disasters like Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil spill, CRC's mission was to bolster economic, environmental, and community resilience through collaborative efforts across various sectors. With participation from business leaders, environmentalists, and government officials, the coalition aimed to develop strategies that would help coastal communities adapt to and recover from future challenges. Over time, CRC has fostered partnerships, developed resources, and promoted policies focused on sustainable development and disaster preparedness. Its efforts have led to significant improvements in coastal management, contributing to the long-term stability and growth of the region.

One of the CRC's significant achievements was its involvement in the Alabama Coastal Comprehensive Plan, a roadmap for improving the region's resilience to environmental and economic challenges. The coalition also played a crucial role in projects like the restoration of oyster reefs in Mobile Bay, which not only boosted the local ecosystem but also provided natural protection against coastal erosion and storm surges.

The coalition's efforts have brought together diverse stakeholders, leading to the development of innovative tools and strategies for coastal management.
