Foley High School is one of only nine schools in state to receive the School of Excellence award from A+ College Ready
FOLEY – Foley High School was recognized for receiving the School of Excellence award from A+ College Ready and Eric Mackey, state superintendent of education, at the Alabama State Board of Education meeting in Montgomery.
The award recognizes Foley High School for their accomplishments in advanced placement courses where students earn a college credit while in high school. Foley High School had 258 qualifying scores, a historic high, in the last year.
The rigorous exams were given in 15 different course offerings including AP physics, AP calculus and AP literature.
Foley Mayor Ralph Hellmich said the award recognizes the outstanding effort made by the students and teachers at Foley High School.
"This is an incredible achievement for Foley High School and reflects the hard work of its students and faculty,” Hellmich said. It shows the value of our city’s partnership with our schools to be the best they can be. Foley High School did a great job."
Principal Jessica Webb also praised the students and faculty.
“I am so proud of our students and teachers for their hard work, dedication, and for rising to this academic challenge,” she said.
Nine high schools and middle schools in Alabama were named Schools of Excellence for 2024. Foley High School was the only school in the Mobile Bay region to achieve the distinction.
High schools were recognized for meeting or exceeding their individual goals for qualifying scores on the spring 2024 Advanced Placement exams by increasing the number of AP qualifying scores.
