  • Governor Ivey Appoints Anthony Lowery as New Baldwin County Sheriff

Governor Kay Ivey has announced the appointment of Anthony Lowery as the new Sheriff of Baldwin County. This decision follows the upcoming departure of Sheriff Hoss Mack, who is stepping down after a notable 20-year tenure to assume the role of Director of the Alabama Sheriffs Association.

A lifelong Baldwin County resident, Lowery currently serves as chief deputy within the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. With nearly two decades of service in the Sheriff’s Office, Lowery has garnered extensive experience, overseeing various projects and responsibilities that have prepared him well for this new leadership role.

Governor Ivey expressed her confidence in Lowery's ability to uphold the safety and security of Baldwin County, noting the importance of maintaining the area's reputation as a safe community for both residents and visitors. "Anthony Lowery's deep law enforcement experience and community involvement make him an ideal choice for this vital role," Governor Ivey stated. "While Sheriff Hoss Mack leaves behind an impressive legacy, I am certain that Anthony is more than capable of leading the department with distinction."

Among Lowery's significant contributions is his role as project manager for the Baldwin County Corrections Center expansion. His law enforcement career spans 28 years, including prior work with the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office.

Lowery expressed his gratitude for the appointment, thanking Governor Ivey and Sheriff Mack for their support. "It is an incredible honor to receive this appointment," Lowery remarked. "I am eager to continue serving the people of Baldwin County alongside the dedicated men and women of the Sheriff’s Office."

In addition to his law enforcement background, Lowery is an Auburn University graduate and has completed advanced training at the FBI National Academy. He is also a local small business owner and a devoted husband and father.

Sheriff Mack's final day in office will be Saturday, August 31, with Lowery officially stepping into the role on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
